Since launching Obie, we have learned a lot from the thousands of teams who’ve used our products. Most notably:
- Having an up-to-date knowledge base is the key to self-serve support
- Knowledge base’s and wikis are useless without robust search

Traditionally, we have built Obie for larger organizations, and less so for startups, teams within larger companies and remote teams. More broadly speaking, our solutions were not designed or positioned for teams of less than 50 members. This is about to change.
We have endeavoured to address the needs of smaller teams over the past few months and we have arrived at a solution: Obie Access.
So what is it that is different about these companies and teams? And how does Obie Access address these eccentricities?
#1 Company development stage
Firstly, smaller teams are often at an earlier stage in their journey of documenting their knowledge. Larger companies already have established processes, knowledge stores and ingrained habits. For them, the priority is to make existing knowledge more accessible, discover existing knowledge gaps and ensure knowledge remains verified and up-to-date; something Obie does really well.
The pain is different, too. We have found larger companies experience more frequently asked questions, repeat issues and severe productivity constraints without universal access to verified knowledge. #2 Speed of integration
Secondly, because of the dynamic that smaller teams have, speed of integration is much different from the mid-market to enterprise scope. Smaller teams and startups tend to have amassed a diverse toolset to solve various problems along their journey. The reason they do this is because they tend to run lean of resources (both financial and human) and they often acquire micro-solutions, at a modest cost, to solve a problem that will accelerate their workflow in lieu of adding headcount. If they’re experiencing a given pain-point, they can drop a new tool into their stack and as long as it plays well with most of the other technology, we have a winner. That’s why teams tend to stick with the Google Suite, Atlassian stack and Slack – they’re well supported from various perspectives. Obie Access does the same: you can drop it in your stack and it just fits. From the perspective of knowledge management, bringing Obie into your workflow doesn’t require that you make massive changes to your workflow or invest time into revamping one or more knowledge silos.
